Most men were soldiers in the military. Very few men were not in the military becasue they were apart of a family buisness. Out of the 200,000 people in Areth, 75,000 are soldiers. The training for soldiers strarted from age 7 up until age 16-20 depending on overal skill. The teacher for the children (future soldiers) would be a retired soldier that had years of experience in battle and the king felt was qualified.
In Areth, it was a great honor to be a warrior. Even though most soldiers did not survive, when they would return from battles they would be treated like kings and heros.
The average soldier would wear an iron helmet, iron chest and back protector, iron shin pads, iron forearm pads, and leather sandals (all of the equipment would be stapped on by leather straps). A soldier would carry one long sword (just under a meter long) and a small, side arm, sword (about a foot long). All soldiers had a shield with around a meter diameter with a animal on it that represented either Areth or the soldier family.
The Areth military took a lot of Sparta's aspects. An example would be how that the military was looked very highly upon just like it was in Sparta. Also that most men would be warriors. Another aspect we took was the training. just like in Sparta, in Areth we would start training at a young age. Jobs.
Most men were warriors. Men that were not warriors were either a farmer, trader (sailors), potter, carpenter, doctor, blacksmith, or slave. Women normally stayed at home and cared for children and family. Women would make cloth for family. Women would teach the male children until age 10 if they were a warrior but if they were apart of a family business their father would mentor them.
The only other job for a women would be to be an adviser for the king. Warriors would begin training at the age of 10. Warriors would be male. The training would be from a previous warrior that served in battle. Other jobs would be passed down by family (it would be a family business).
